Our Edgar at 76

On 31 May 1950, Prime Minister Edgar Savisaar was born. I was fortunate to spend many years as his assistant and to work alongside Raimond Kaljulaid, Kadri Simson, and, of course, Jüri Ratas.

Savisaar’s greatest achievement can be considered his children, but his name is also inseparably linked to the restoration of Estonia’s independence. Edgar was one of the leading figures during the Singing Revolution, which culminated in the restoration of Estonia's independence. Edgar left us far too soon. 

His politics brought people together, and his contribution to the development of the state, politics, and society will forever remain in people’s memory.
